The Joy Cupcakes store in Melbourne’s the Glen shopping centre was a cafe fit-out collaboration between Architects, Hecker Guthrie and Yarra Valley Commercial.
Because of its’ central and open position, the retail premise demanded a clever design, thoughtfully placed items and meticulous attention to detail. The pressure was on as the café style facilities were required to fit in a display retail configuration.
When first presented with the brief, Yarra Valley Commercial project manager Andrew admits to feeling a little sceptical on the finished design (particularly the use of tiles). However, the combination of mosaic, standard and subway tiles uniquely using the tiles reverse delivered a bright, clean and cheerful palette aligning beautifully to the Joy Cupcakes brand.
The locally sourced marble benchtops and American oak timber cabinets house a variety of storage options, as well as the combi oven and fridge system. Deliverables from the Yarra Valley Commercial team included CAD drawings, full joinery and installation.
